Replacing the analog control systems of high-power variable speed drives (>1 MW) is made difficult and expensive by the size of the thyristor bridges.

EIE has developed boards (E506) mounted in a rack, allowing the original thyristors to be controlled by a very low-power digital drive. The E506 board converts the pulse trains generated by small digital drives into pulses identical in shape and voltage (up to 150 V) to those required at the primary of the original pulse transformers, which can therefore be retained.

In addition to the cost savings achieved by keeping the thyristor bridges, modernization is a solution that does not require a prolonged shutdown of the plant. It allows for progressive commissioning during scheduled maintenance shutdowns, since reverting to the original system is generally very simple and very quick.
